Professor Dr. Hamdia Mirkhan Ahmed has a BSc in Nursing from Arak Branch of Islamic Azad University/Iran (1996), MSc and Ph.D. degree in Maternity Nursing from Hawler Medical University/Kurdistan Region/Iraq (2006, 2010). Also she completed Postgraduate Diploma in Bioethics and Health law from UNESCO Chair in Bioethics HAIFA (2022) and Postgraduate Diploma in Organizational Leadership from University of Oxford/UK (2024). She is currently the Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Hawler Medical University. In 2000, she was selected as Erbil Branch member of the Kurdistan Health Staff Syndicate. She was a member of establishing committee of the College of Nursing in Erbil city at 2001. Hamdia also was the head of the Kurdistan Scientific Nurses Association for five years (from 2003 - 2008). She was also a member of establishing the committee (2011) and Head of the Midwifery Department in the College of Nursing for seven years. She was responsible for directing the Center for Research and Education in Women’s Health (CREWH) for six years at the same University. She has around 100 research papers in nursing, midwifery, women’s health, health services research, conflict and health, and medical education in Iraqi Kurdistan contexts published in well-reputed and highly accessible journals. Dr. Hamdia has obtained and successfully implemented several research and projects for improving nursing, midwifery cares, and job description related to the nursing and midwifery profession at the level of the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan region/Iraq. She has more than 100 published research. Now, she is a coach in programs of the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research related to reproductive and sexual health. Hamdia is also working as a trainer for Sexual and Reproductive Health supported by Non-Governmental Organizations in Erbil city. She actively participated in more than 30 conferences and training courses outside of Iraq in the USA, AUE, Egypt, the Netherlands, the UK, Italy, Turkey, Iran, Tunisia, Swaziland, Canada, Japan, Kuwait and more than 50 inside of Iraq. She organized three scientific conferences in women’s health and two more as the College of Health Sciences Scientific Conference; two of them were virtual during the COVID pandemic. She is interested in improving the nursing and midwifery profession in the Kurdistan region. She believes in personal development as fundamental to community growth and development.

Hamdia has an interest in conduct research in nursing, midwifery, women's health, and the health system arena.
