Head of clinical pharmacy department
The Clinical Pharmacy Department was established in early 2023 with the aim of advancing various subjects including but not limited to clinical pharmacy, community pharmacy, clinical ward, and pharmacy practice. It is an integral part of the College of Pharmacy at Hawler Medical University. The department provides essential knowledge and skills to graduating students, preparing them for the pharmacy, hospital ward, and clinical settings. Clinical pharmacy is a field the specializes in optimizing the patient care process in order to improve healthcare outcomes. As part of a healthcare team pharmacists are able to become proficient in communication, drug counseling, information provision, and medication therapy management. Pharmacists must be capable of utilizing guidelines and evidence-based medicine to optimize the patient’s medication regimen. In addition to conducting themselves in a hospital, pharmacists in essence are managers and leaders. They play an essential role within the pharmacies via provision of patient care services, medication dispensing, and provision of counseling services.
Mission:
The mission of the Clinical Pharmacy Department is to promote the development of practical skills that students can apply in pharmacy, hospital, and clinic settings. These skills enable students to improve the quality of pharmaceutical care provided to patients, and collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
Vision
The vision of the Clinical Pharmacy Department is to foster the creation of new research, workshops, and seminars that advance the scientific field and promote the application of practical pharmacy skills in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Through evidence-based medicine, pharmacists in Iraq have the capacity to influence patient care positively.
Goal
The ultimate goal of the Clinical Pharmacy Department is to advance patient-centered care in the community by educating and equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for safe and effective medication provision. The rigorous curriculum emphasizes communication skills, professionalism, critical thinking, and independent learning. The department aims to produce productive and impactful members of society. In addition to education, the department and its staff are committed to conducting research that advances the field of pharmacy practice in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The department collaborates with hospitals and pharmacies in the region to enhance training and allow for development opportunities for pharmacists.
