Dr. Evan Latef Khlef is a molecular biologist, academic leader, and visionary in the field of genetics and medical diagnostics.
She currently serves as Director of First-Year Students and Head of the Genetics and Molecular Biology Unit at the College of Medicine, Hawler Medical University (HMU), where she has become a driving force in integrating molecular science into clinical and community health practice.

Holding a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Dr. Khlef’s research and teaching span the fields of genetic analysis, molecular diagnostics, and epigenetics.
Her doctoral work focused on the design of a plasmid-free DNA vaccine vector system devoid of antibiotic-resistance genes — an innovation aimed at improving biosafety in genetic engineering.
Throughout her career, she has combined rigorous scientific inquiry with a strong commitment to educational excellence, mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students in modern molecular methods and bioinformatics.

As an academic and researcher, Dr. Khlef has authored studies on avian influenza viruses, vitamin D status and miscarriage, and genetic markers of disease, with special emphasis on translating research findings into practical health solutions for the Kurdistan Region.
Her seminars and continuing professional development (CPD) programs — including topics such as Sirtuins and NAD⁺ Metabolism, Epigenetic Aging, and Protective Gene Pathways — have inspired both faculty and students to view genetics as a gateway to precision medicine and longevity science.

Dr. Evan Latef Khlef is known for her elegant and disciplined professionalism, her dedication to building scientific capacity in Erbil, and her belief that genetic knowledge is not only a tool for discovery but a foundation for public well-being.
Her ongoing mission is to cultivate the next generation of medical scientists and to make molecular diagnostics an accessible and trusted pillar of healthcare in the region.
