The College of Medicine at Hawler Medical University in collaboration with the Ministry of

Health/Baghdad organized the "Basics of Communication Skills in Medical Interview" workshop at the Dedeman hotel on 03rd to 07th February 2019. The workshop was organized for the major clinical departments (Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics and Gynecology & Obstetrics), for the basics of communication skills in medical interview including topics of verbal communication techniques, non-verbal communication, initiating the medical session, empathy, gathering information, patient’s perspective, illness, language barriers and cultural disparity, explanation and planning. The aim was to enable participants to use the essential communication skills efficiently in daily practice and in accordance with ethical boundaries. A total of 25 faculty staff from the College of Medicine participated in the workshop.
