At the College of Pharmacy, on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, the Quality Assurance of the College of Pharmacy held the national workshop entitled "Safety and Security."

The presenter, Kezhal , Mahmood Salih Lecturer at Hawler Medical University, provided vital information on the bioSecurity and boisafety and chemical safety .classification of  biological and chemical hazards also the presenter talked about the Containment levels and lab environment . The presenter focused on Lab safety rules and the risk assessment procedure.   

 Workshop Outcome

At the end of workshop all the participants were familiar with the following points .

  • Definition of safety and security
  • Have information about adherence with safety regulation while dealing with higher infectious agents.
  • Safe Handling of Infectious agent.
  • How protecting themselves and their Health from biological hazardous materials (Microbes and Viruses)
  • Ability to Classifying hazard chemicals according to GHS system .
  • Lab Safety rules
  • How they do a Risk assessment for laboratory and how they deals with chemical hazards materials
  • evaluate risks
  • How they do the control measure.
  • Determine controls needed to minimise those risks

     They able to differentiate between the hazards and the risk.

  • How they do their work safely in biological and chemical Lab.
  • Avoiding Fires
  • Laboratory hygiene
  • What are the general hazards in a laboratory?
  • Protecting themselves from the hazardous chemical substances.

Kezhal Mahmood salih, Lecture at Hawler Medical University. Currently, she is a lecturer of Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry and Chemistry for Pharmacy Student at Pharmaceutical Chemistry department, She is responsible of Health and safety section at college of pharmacy.
