From Experience and Ideas to Science and Innovation
On Saturday, October 17, 2026, Hawler Medical University – College of Pharmacy held three academic sessions under the supervision of the Dean, Dr. Hunar Kamal, as part of its 2026–2027 activities. The event brought together professors, young researchers, and students to explore writing, research, and artificial intelligence.
01 | From Reader to Writer
Prof. Dr. Farhad Ali Mustafa shared experiences from his writing and publishing journey, discussing how to develop original ideas, identify knowledge gaps, organize content, use academic sources, and overcome publishing challenges. Personal stories and an interactive discussion offered participants practical insights into writing an impactful book.
02 | Behind Published Research
Dr. Bashdar Mahmud Hussen joined young researchers (Sara Nawzad and Hero Ari) to discuss the journey from a research idea to a published paper. Drawing on firsthand experience, they explored topic selection, study designs, data collection and analysis, interpretation of findings, and ways to overcome research challenges.
03 | A Journey into Artificial Intelligence
Prof. Dr. Abbas Salayee explored the growing role of AI in scientific research and innovation, highlighting the difference between Generative AI and Agentic AI. The session introduced tools that can support the research journey from developing a title and reviewing literature to analyzing data, preparing manuscripts, selecting journals, and submitting papers. It also addressed finding international experts and potential reviewers, scientific databases including Kurdish language databases, and the importance of research ethics.
The central message was a shift from using AI mainly to generate text toward understanding it as a broader research assistant and imagining how these technologies could be adapted or developed to meet scientific needs, with human judgment and responsibility remaining essential.
Together, the sessions encouraged participants to turn knowledge and ideas into meaningful contributions. Our sincere thanks go to the Dean, distinguished guests, speakers, and everyone who helped make the event a success.
