A community health project was implemented by the College of Nursing, Hawler Medical University in collaboration with the Deaf Institute in Erbil to assess the general health status of the deaf students in Erbil city. The project which was implemented by the fourth year student of the Nursing college under the supervision of the faculty staff of community health department in the college, included a set of activities like health promotion through health education focusing on the main health issues of the deaf students and how to prevent diseases. Case referral was also applied for those who suffer from certain diseases and require further consultation. The students have also assessed the learning process in this institution in general and discussed ways of incorporating the health awareness messages in their teaching curriculum.

The project started on 23 December 2018 and was completed on 28 April 2019.
