Effect of Date Palm Pollen Grain on Humans Sexual Hormones

Background and objective: Date palm pollen grain, as an herbal combination in traditional medicines generally used to cure male infertility. The male blossoms of date palm are also used by people as a fresh vegetable to enhance fertility. Earliest Egyptians and Chinese societies used pollen as a rejuvenating medicinal agent, known as “fountain of youth”. Pollen preparations are distributed worldwide for dietary purposes and as a diet supplement for increasing the total dietary intake, then it is a source of such as Vitamins, minerals, fatty acid and amino acids.
Methods: In this research project, volunteers (of both sexes) were provided with powder of date palm pollen grain in capsules of 300 mg for males to be taken for 15 days, and capsules of 150 mg for females to be taken for 30 days.
Results: Male results showed a decrease in each of testosterone, progesterone, estrogen and prolactin. While female results showed; increase in each of testosterone, Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), prolactin, and Luteinizing Hormone (LH); and a decrease in estrogen and progesterone.
Conclusion: By taking date pollen powder, all the hormones in male dropped (testosterone, progesterone, prolactin, estrogen), while in female (FSH, LH, prolactin, testosterone) were increased and (estrogen and progesterone) were dropped.
