Students are admitted to undergraduate studies through a central admission system and on an equal and competitive opportunity basis. Candidates for undergraduate studies must have completed the secondary school/scientific branch with high grades depending on the college (as shown in the table below). In addition to the grade of graduation, high grade is required in three subjects; Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Before admission and commencement of studies, the concerned colleges conduct individual interviews with the prospective students.
All undergraduate and postgraduate studies are free of charge. The University also provides accommodations for students coming from outside Erbil city. It also provides financial assistance to students in form of monthly stipends.
Foreign students are welcomed to study at the University and participate in our academic learning experience.
MSc and Diploma study program
Postgraduate studies (Diploma, MSc) require a university degree and certain period of experience depending on the specialty. The admission is again done through a competitive and equal opportunity basis. Candidates have to pass a special examination in the related subject. Passing English language and computer competency tests are also necessary for admission to postgraduate studies.
The clinical diploma program consists of 1 year of taught and clinical practice. The students have to pass the final examination and to write a thesis of 10-20 pages. Admission for clinical diploma requires 1 year experience in the relevant fields for the medical specialties and 2 years experience for the surgical specialties.
The high diploma program consists of 2 years. The first year program consists of taught courses in basic medical studies, biostatistics and the relevant fields. The second year is for research and writing thesis of 30-40 pages. The students will be engaged also in clinical practice during the 2 years. Admission to the program requires 1 year experience in the relevant fields for the medical specialties and 2 years experience for the surgical specialties.
The MSc program consists of 2 years. The first year is composed of intensive taught courses in basic medical studies, biostatistics and the relevant field. The second year is for research and thesis of around 100 pages. Admission to the program requires 1 year experience in the relevant field.

PhD study program
Students to be chosen for completing their PhD should have an MSc degree. Three years of experience after getting the MSc are required as well as a special exam in the related subject in order to be qualified for PhD study. Selection of candidates is also done on a competitive basis.
The PhD program consists of 3-4 years of which 1.5 year for taught courses in basic medical studies and the relevant fields and 1.5 – 2 years for research and writing thesis of around 200 pages. The students will continue doing clinical practice during the period. There is a comprehensive examination at the end of program for both taught and clinical parts.
